Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) has improved its position both internationally and nationally in the current Shanghai Ranking (Academic Ranking of World Universities). In the international ranking, FAU surged 17 places ahead to 226th place (previous year: 243). In Germany, FAU climbed two places and now holds 15th place (previous year: 17).
In the international QS world university ranking (Quacquarelli Symonds) the Department of Mechanical Engineering reaches TOP 10 in national and TOP 200 in the word wide ranking.
In the british Times Higher Education (THE) Impact ranking by subject, FAU’s faculty of engineering reaches TOP 150 worldwide with a score of 99.9 in “industry”.

In the “Shanghai Ranking 2023” (Academic Ranking of World Universities), FAU maintains its place among the TOP 20 universities nationally. Internationally, this puts FAU among the top 10 percent of all universities assessed.
In the THE Impact Ranking, FAU achieves top placements in the categories Good Health and Well-being, Affordable and Clean Energy, and Sustainable Cities and Communities.

In the “WirtschaftsWoche” university ranking, the Industrial Engineering and Management (WING) programme once again achieved the rating “Germany’s best universities” (TOP 10).
In the “Trendence Graduate Barometer 2019”, surveyed students of International Production Engineering and Management, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics and Industrial Engineering and Management at FAU once again gave top marks in the categories “Career Service” (1st place in Germany), “Internationality of studies” (2nd place) and “Service and advice” (2nd place). Once again, 93% of respondents would recommend FAU.
2017
In the QS World University Ranking, Electrical Engineering (EEI) and Mechanical Engineering reached the top 10 nationally.
In the international “U-Multirank” comparison, EEI once again achieved top positions in all five areas (research, knowledge transfer, teaching and learning, international orientation, regional engagement). EEI performed particularly well in knowledge transfer (top marks in all three points) and research (top marks in five of six points). In total, EEI achieved the top ratings “very good” and “good” 23 times and Mechanical Engineering 16 times.
In the CHE ranking, EEI achieved top-group placements in the categories “Graduation within a reasonable time”, “Contact with professional practice” and “Research funding and inventions”.
