Coming from an Electronics and Communication Engineering background, I always knew I wanted a master’s that felt practical, not just theoretical. ACES stood out immediately, Autonomous Driving and Sustainable Mobility is exactly where the industry is heading, and I wanted to be part of that. What I love most are the people. Students from all over the world, figuring things out together, which makes the hard days easier. And Erlangen itself surprised me: small and calm, but Nuremberg’s right there whenever I need a bit of city life. Somewhere in between, it’s become home. If you’re on the fence about ACES, just go for it!” |
![]() | Hareesh, Master student ACES: “I chose FAU because of its strong reputation in engineering, excellent research opportunities, and close connections with industry such as Siemens, Audi, BMW, and many innovative research institutes. The Electromobility-ACES Master’s programme appealed to me because it combines advanced engineering with emerging technologies such as AI, connectivity, e-powertrain and sustainable mobility, allowing me to broaden my mechanical engineering background. What I enjoy most is working on research with real-world applications and learning in an international environment.” |

The ACES Master’s program particularly appealed to me because it covers future-oriented technical fields such as automation, sustainability, autonomous driving, and advanced computational methods, while allowing students to shape their studies according to their individual interests. I especially value the variety of courses, the opportunity to work on practical and research-oriented projects, and the support provided by lecturers and fellow students. Erlangen is also a welcoming and student-friendly city, making it an excellent place to study, grow professionally, and connect with people from different cultures.” |
![]() | Nilufar, Master student ACES: “I chose FAU and the ACES programme because of my deep interest in electromobility and automotive manufacturing processes. During my previous studies in aviation and computer engineering, I was always fascinated by how software, whether for autonomous drones or self-driving systems, shapes entire industries. Germany, being one of the world’s leading automotive producers, was a natural choice for me, and FAU stands out with its strong reputation in this field. What excites me most is that electromobility is not just about building electric cars it is a truly prestigious direction for the future, combining advanced engineering with emerging technologies. I believe this field still holds enormous potential for breakthrough projects, and I am eager to be part of that development. Studying at FAU gives me the opportunity to connect my background in programming and systems engineering with real-world automotive innovation. I am confident that the skills and experience I gain here will open doors to a meaningful career at the intersection of software, engineering and sustainable mobility.” |
![]() | Talha, Master student ACES: “I chose ACES at FAU because it combines autonomous systems, AI, and electric mobility in a way I couldn’t find anywhere else in Germany. The program pushed me to work on real problems; my thesis involves actual fault injection experiments on a live communication protocol, not just theory. Erlangen also surprised me: the city is small, but the engineering industry around it is enormous, and that connection to real companies makes a real difference. I can wholeheartedly recommend ACES to anyone who wants to do serious technical work in a supportive and well-connected environment.” |

Beulah, Master student ACESFAU has a long tradition in physics and engineering that goes back to people like Georg Simon Ohm (of the famous Ohm’s law) and I felt privileged when offered a chance to study here. I was looking for a mix of mechanical, AI and electronics, driven by my interest in autonomous driving and ACES delivered that. The teaching is application-oriented, and the professors genuinely know their field. The initial months were hard, settling into a new culture, language and unfamiliarity but fellow students going through the same thing, the church community and events at the university really helped make Erlangen home. The research project and internship built into the program give real exposure to where the technology is actually going. If you have an engineering background and an interest in this field, I’d say go for it.
